ON THE RECORD: An Official Interview with Core of CTC

The following is not a recovered transmission. It was released officially by the Colonial Technologies Corporation's press office. Read it twice. Notice what is never actually answered.

ON THE RECORD: Core, Vice President, CTC Special Division

Q: Thank you for making time. You're known simply as Core. No surname, no first name on record. Why?

Names are for things that change, my dear interviewer. I do not.

Q: CTC's special division is the least documented branch of the company. What exactly do you do?

We ensure continuity. When the colonies sleep soundly, that is our work. When they do not, that is our work as well.

Q: There are rumors of increased Red Skull Society activity near the northern quadrant. Any comment?

The Red Skulls are a criminal element, and criminal elements are a matter for law enforcement. CTC watches such developments with the same concern as every citizen.

Q: The same concern. Not more?

You have a talent for hearing words that were not spoken. Cultivate it carefully.

Q: One more. After the last war, questions remain about CTC's research facilities. What is the special division looking for?

[A pause. In the official recording, you can hear the interviewer's chair creak as he leans away.]

Looking for? A curious phrasing. One only looks for what has been lost. And CTC, I assure you, loses nothing.

This interview is concluded.
