Who Is Anna Matrix? Meet the Martian Cop Who Dreams of Another Life

Anna Matrix wakes up crying and doesn't know why.

That's how readers meet her: shooting upright in bed under dull Martian sunlight, sky-blue eyes blurred with tears, one word escaping before she can stop it — a name. Levia. A name that echoes through her like a distant bell, familiar yet hollow.

On paper, Anna's life is ordinary enough. She's a police officer on Mars — the gold-plated badge on her dresser proves it. She has a black American Shorthair named Mr. Scraps who treats her existential crises with the indifference only a cat can manage. But nothing else about Anna is ordinary. There are the elongated, elf-like ears. There's the strength she doesn't fully understand. And there's the dream — the same one, night after night — of a woman with crimson eyes and a promise Anna is supposed to remember.

When she tries to sketch the woman's face, her hand draws something else entirely: a warped symbol, repeated again and again, while the face stays locked behind a curtain she can't lift.

Anna is confident to the point of arrogance, quick with a jab, and quicker with her fists — and underneath it all, quietly terrified that the dream means something is coming for her. She's right.
